The oil is still flowing, and reporters can’t get enough of it. It is the biggest story, at the moment, and rightly so. Failing to stop the gushing well will be a thorn in the side of BP for years to come, if they survive that long. The company can forget about any real profits or stock market gains for the foreseeable future and it is time to ask the most important question for our planet. Should we give up on oil?
Depending on who you are, what you have to gain, or your education level, you might say no to this question, but why? If this stuff is so toxic in its basic form, and causes havoc with our atmosphere when “refined” then why do we continue to rely on it?
Is it really the cheapest, reliable, abundant, and most efficient fuel we can use? If the answer is yes, is it worth the risk? Most gulf coast residents are mad as hell and will tell you no. Having your business shut down will do that to a person. It’s time for everyone to wake up from this oil soaked dream, and realize we are drowning in toxic sludge.
There are many alternative fuel sources, and many new homes and businesses use a combination of these to produce energy. Regardless of the costs, the world needs to take the necessary steps and stop using oil. People may be worried about the debt our grandchildren will inherit, but what about the continued loss of plant and animal life, garbage filled streets, or the toxic smog covered cities they will have to live in? More people are worried about the prosperity of their money than the prosperity of their health.
There are tons of ideas, plans and start-up businesses researching alternative fuel sources, but those who stand to profit prevent the success of these alternative ideas.
It has become a political platform. Energy lobbyists are constantly trying to get politicians on their side. And they have been wildly successful.
You cannot trust what you read, including this article. You should be reading as many arguments as possible from both sides. Then take a look at the facts, and decide for yourself what is more important, someones wallet size, or the health and well-being of the human race and our planet?
Hopefully this will be a wake-up call for the world to stop using oil. That falls on the shoulders of everyone. The only way to change our planet is by getting the planet involved.
